Drs. Feng Qian, Stewart Lustik, Carol Diachun, Richard Wissler, Raymond Zollo and Laurent Glance have published an article in the December 2011 issue of "Medical Care".  After analyzing the association between hospital mortality and Leapfrog Safe Practices among patients underoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, and hip replacement, the authors did not find evidence that patients undergoing major surgery at hospitals which scored higher on the Leapfrog Safe Practices Survey had lower mortality rates.
