Participation in the Department

Positions currently available for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA)

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Rochester employs 27 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA's) in a program with 32 full-time attending anesthesiologists, 46 residents, and 6 fellows. The University of Rochester Medical Center (Strong Memorial Hospital) has 31 operating rooms (OR's) and the Lattimore Surgical Center has 4 OR's. The Medical Center includes the only regional Level 1 Trauma Center, a Burn Center, the largest medical, surgical, and transplant cardiovascular center in the region, a solid organ transplant center, the only Children's Hospital in the region, and the regional center for high-risk obstetrics.

CRNA's at the University of Rochester have a unique role in the overall achievement of the Department's goals. The CRNA group has formed an Executive Committee with elected leadership, who actively participate in creating the best environment for professional advancement, learning, and addressing family/lifestyle needs of the group through interactions with their Medical Director and the Chairman.

CRNA's participate in all clinical activities of the Department, including providing anesthesia care for ENT, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Urology, Orthopedics, GU, OB/GYN, Transplant, Cardiac, Pediatric, Dental, Thoracic, Vascular, Trauma and Burns, and General Surgery Patients at Strong Memorial Hospital and at Lattimore Surgical Center, a nearby surgicenter.

The Department of Anesthesiology provides services for over 30,000 patients per year and experienced substantial continuous growth in surgical volume reflecting both ambulatory and complex inpatient cases during the last five years. For this reason the Department has maintained a vigorous recruitment strategy for anesthesia providers that include CRNAs and physicians.

There are currently positions available for a highly-qualified applicant interested in working in a dynamic university setting that combines a commitment to teaching and professional advancement with a complete range of cases providing choice and diversity in case mix.
