Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology website. There is a wealth of information about the department available on this site. No matter if you are a prospective student, resident, fellow, faculty or patient we hope you will enjoy your visit. There are links to other parts of the University of Rochester and the larger anesthesiology community that you may find interesting. The department has just undergone an extensive strategic planning process and is well positioned to make significant advances in patient care, education and research over the next five years. The motto of the University of Rochester – Meliora, aptly describes our department – “Always better”.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Anesthesiology is to deliver “Medicine of the Highest Order” through excellence in peri-operative medicine, pain management and critical care; outstanding educational programs; and innovations in research.

Denham S. Ward, MD, PhD, Elected to Serve as Chair of Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research  

Rochester, MN, October 29, 2009 -- The Board of Directors of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) elected Denham S. Ward, MD, PhD, to serve as Chair of the Board at their annual fall meeting October 17. 

"I am confident FAER will benefit immensely from Dr. Ward’s leadership," said Alan D. Sessler, MD, FAER President. "We look forward to working with him to grow and expand the important research grant and educational opportunities we provide to aspiring and practicing anesthesiologists and physician scientists."

Dr. Ward has been a member of the FAER Board of Directors since 2002.

FAER is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to advance medicine through education and research in anesthesiology. FAER provides research grants and career development opportunities for medical students, residents and anesthesiologists.
